“Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain silent”
― Victor Hugo

Music is a language that anyone can learn.  It is a form of expression and another way that we speak to each other.

Playing the guitar is my favorite way to express the language of music.

Learning to play the guitar takes practice.  I teach people to Practice  their guitar 15 to 20 minutes a day.
This video also explores the importance of Playing your instrument.  The concepts of practice and play are different but equally important.

At Relax and Learn Guitar,  I talk about the importance of the beginning of learning the guitar and building on one skill before moving to the next.  Once you have the basics down, the journey is endless.  Mistakes are part of the journey.  Many mistakes have led to incredible beauty.

It is important to find your musical voice and to decide how you want to share that with others.

Some key points form this excellent video are:

  1. Embrace your mistakes, that is how we learn. Teaching a language and teaching an instrument are similar in that allowing people to explore and experiment lead to learning skills faster.
  2. Play your guitar and perform with others.  A great place to start is the Relax and Learn Community.
  3. Play more than you practice.  These two concepts are linked and the more you play, the more likely you are to practice and learn new skills.
  4. Music works better when you find your own voice.
